Webster Technique and Breech Pregnancy Support in Allentown, PA
So much of pregnancy centers on your baby: their growth, their movements, their position, and their arrival. Meanwhile, you are finding new ways to sleep, walk, sit, and feel comfortable in a body that keeps changing.
Perhaps one hip feels restricted. Your lower back feels tense. Or you have heard about the Webster Technique after learning your baby is breech and want to understand what it offers.
At Healing Wave Chiropractic, Dr. Shaun M. Gallagher brings the attention back to you. Our focus is thoughtful, hands-on care for your pelvis and the physical demands of pregnancy.

What Is the Webster Technique?
Developed by Dr. Larry Webster, founder of the International Chiropractic Pediatric Association, the Webster Technique combines a specific sacral assessment and adjustment with attention to related soft tissues [1]. Its purpose is to address sacral and sacroiliac joint dysfunction and support function in the pelvic region.
The ICPA describes this focus as neurobiomechanical function. In everyday language, that means considering how the nervous system, joints, and supporting tissues work together around your pelvis.
Webster’s legacy grew through the work of Dr. Jeanne Ohm and the ICPA, whose teaching expanded the conversation from breech concerns to proactive care throughout pregnancy. That broader perspective remains central: caring for the mother as she prepares for birth.
Your pelvis is a connected ring of bones and soft tissues. The sacrum—the triangular bone at the base of your spine—sits between the two hip bones. The sacroiliac joints connect them at the back, while the pubic joint connects the pelvis at the front. Muscles, ligaments, and connective tissues surround and support this structure.
Within the Webster approach, pelvic balance means looking at how these structures move and how tension is distributed around them. The assessment considers the sacrum alongside the surrounding muscles and ligaments, rather than treating each area as an isolated part.

ICPA Positional Statement regarding the Webster Technique
"The Webster Technique is a specific chiropractic sacral analysis and diversified adjustment. The goal of the adjustment is to reduce the effects of sacral subluxation/ SI joint dysfunction. In doing so, neuro-biomechanical function in the pelvis is facilitated.
Sacral subluxation may contribute to difficult labor for the mother (i.e., dystocia), caused by inadequate uterine function, pelvic contraction, and baby mal presentation. Correction of sacral subluxation may have a positive effect on all of these causes of dystocia."
