Support for ADHD, Focus, and Sensory Challenges in Allentown
Some children seem to feel everything: Sounds are too loud. Clothing tags are unbearable. Transitions are hard. Sitting still feels impossible. Big feelings come quickly. Focus comes and goes. Homework becomes a battle. Sleep may be restless.
Adults can experience similar patterns. Too many tabs open. Too much noise. Too many demands. A body that feels wired, tense, or unable to settle.
Families often come to Healing Wave Chiropractic because they are not looking for another label or diagnosis. They want to understand, connect with and feel more at home in their bodies. They want their kids to have a coherent nervous system so they can excel in school, social development and activities. We help kids and adults achieve these goals every day.
Dr. Shaun M. Gallagher's focus is different than the conventional medical approach: He focuses on how the spine, posture, breath, and nervous system may be influencing regulation, body awareness, and adaptability. Then he uses NetworkSpinal, Somato Respiratory Integration, chiropractic cranial work and other gentle methods to help his practice members spines and nervous systems organize to a more coherent and healthy state which may be very beneficial for someone with ADHD or focus and sensory challenges. Dr. Shaun doesn't treat ADHD and his care isn't a substitute when conventional medical help is necessary.

Why Do Focus and Sensory Challenges Affect the Body?
When the nervous system is overloaded, the body may respond with movement, tension, poor posture, clenching, holding their breath, avoidance, emotional reactivity, poor focus, or difficulty shifting from one task to another. The body may be working hard to process sound, light, touch, movement, social cues, and expectations all at once.
You may notice patterns such as:
Restlessness or constant movement
Trouble sitting comfortably
Big reactions to small changes
Jaw, neck, or shoulder tension
Shallow breathing
Difficulty with transitions
Clumsiness or poor body awareness
Sensitivity to touch, clothing, sound, or light
Trouble calming after excitement or stress
The goal is to support the body’s ability to organize, recover, and respond with more flexibility.
Why Body Awareness Matters for Focus
Some children appear “on” all the time. Others seem shut down, tired, or hard to engage. Some move between both patterns. A child who cannot feel where their body is in space may need to move more to stay oriented. A child with a tense spine or shallow breathing may have trouble feeling settled. An adult carrying constant stress through the jaw, neck, and shoulders may have less capacity for sustained attention.
This is where proprioception matters. Proprioception is the body’s sense of position and movement. When that system is clearer, the body may have an easier time feeling grounded.
Dr. Shaun looks at focus and sensory challenges through this body-based lens: We are helping the body build more awareness.
