COVID-19 Update for Active Patients
Updated: Mar 20
Dear Practice Members, During this unprecedented public health crisis, essential services such as health care providers are tasked with ensuring the safety of their practice members while still providing healing and support. We feel strongly about the role of chiropractic as a staple in supporting the health and well being of the public along with other salutogenic measures that assist the body in adapting to physical, chemical and emotional challenges.
Chiropractors have provided these essential health services for over 100 years and have done so during pandemics, natural disasters and following terrorist attacks such as 911 at Ground Zero. Right now, we are staying open with some modifications to our hours, daily procedures, and the office layout. Some of the steps we’re taking to ensure your safety:
-thorough table sanitation after each patient,
-sanitation of common surfaces (doorknobs, chairs, etc.) several times daily,
-fewer people booked per hour,
-respect for social distancing (tables 6+ feet apart and private rooms available),
-air disinfection, and
-meticulous hygiene practices by the doctor.
All penalties for missed or cancelled appointments are suspended at this time.
What should I do as a patient?
Please remain calm (remember to breathe deeply), lower stress levels, get plenty of sleep, supplement with Vitamin D, avoid excess alcohol, reduce sugar consumption, get plenty of exercise and eat healthy foods. All of these, including chiropractic care, are salutogenic and promote health. These are all proactive things we can all do to support our health and immune systems.
Regarding your appointments here: Do what makes you feel safe. Delivering high quality care, providing a safe environment for patients, and ensuring that our patients feel safe in their decision to come in or stay home are our top priorities. You must make this decision for yourself and your family, and we support that decision either way.
Please do not arrive early for your appointments. If you do arrive early, please wait in your vehicle until your scheduled appointment time.
We also advise you to self-isolate and reschedule your appointments if you are experiencing any of the following: productive cough, non-productive cough, bronchitis, respiratory infection, sore throat, fever, nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, severe fatigue not associated with travel, or exposure to a known case of COVID-19.
Mildly ill patients are encouraged to stay home and contact their primary physician by phone for guidance about clinical management.
Everyone, including chiropractors, must do what makes them feel safe with notions of safety being informed by evidence. Otherwise the fear is for its own sake and represents an unhealthy, non-adaptive response.
Let us be clear: No one should feel guilty about their decisions and no one should feel obligated to put themselves at risk.
At this time, Dr. Shaun has decided to keep the office open because he believes the benefits of his care outweigh the risks. We are closely watching reports from state, national and global health organizations to ensure a timely and appropriate response to the situation as needed.
Dr. Shaun will advise you of any changes or developments as this crisis unfolds and eventually heals. Thank you for your time and consideration in these matters and thank you for being a valued practice member at Healing Wave Chiropractic.
